It is with great pleasure that I share with you my Shawi, the one that I like to rediscover every day with my husband and, when I have the opportunity, with my grandchildren! Yay to early retirement, which gives me more time to enjoy the pleasures of life.
Welcome to Shawi! I suggest La suite Hébergements in downtown Shawinigan for accomodation. The rustic-modern look of the rooms is really nice, with brick walls and vintage elements that refer to the history of Shawinigan. Then, head the the restaurant Le Chenapan for dinner!
Then, head to the Centre des arts of Shawinigan or the Maison de la culture Francis-Brisson for a show. At the Centre des arts, you see the stage really well – no matter where you are sitting! At the Maison de la culture Francis-Brisson, it is the history of the place, as well as the acoustics that are exceptional.
To start the day on Saturday, go to the Pâtisserie Le Palais to taste fresh products made with love. My indulgence is the almond croissant with a choice of flavors. When I want to spoil myself, Le Palais is my first choice!
Then go for a walk downtown, by following this winter circuit! Walking is, in my opinion, the best way to take the pulse of a city and discover little hidden treasures! Do not forget to stop in front of the historical panels that you will come across along your route. You will learn a little more about the history of the city.
Want a fancy dinner? I recommend the Auberge Aux Goglus, located in the picturesque village heart of Saint-Jean-des-Piles. I love the refined menu, the atmosphere and the service. Plus, it’s a ‘bring your own wine’ restaurant! Psst. You have to try the brownies with a sponge toffee for dessert. Yum!!!
Sunday, head to Parc de l’Île-Melville – secteur des chutes (falls area). I love the 4 km trail which allows me to have interesting views of the hydroelectric power station, the dams, and Shawinigan Bay while getting active. It can be done on snowshoes or with spikes, since the trails are often well packed.
