On a Trolleybus

  • Take a seat aboard a friendly Tramway-style bus to stroll the streets of Shawinigan. This guided city tour is EXCITING! Along the way, you’ll discover the many facets of Shawinigan’s history, the power of its former and actual industries, its architectural treasures and its different neighborhoods. On your ride in this friendly bus, expect some surprising fun facts!

 

  • The itinerary, lasting an hour and fifteen minutes, makes a thrilling stop at the Trou du diable. You’ll be invited to get off the bus for a few moments, to take a small path in the forest, which will lead you to a belvedere with an impressive view of the mysterious Trou du diable (devil’s hole). A very deep pool of water, hidden in the hollow of the rocks, which, according to legend, would be the refuge of the devil…

 

  • Speaking of anecdotes, did you know that Shawinigan, with its Broadway Street, its numbered arteries and its large Parc Saint-Maurice, was deliberately modeled on the pattern of New York City? Moreover, the park was designed by the firm who designed the plans of the famous Central Park!

 

On a pontoon

  • This cruise, which lasts one hour and fifteen minutes, departs from the dock of the Cité de l’énergie and will take you to the les Rapides des Hêtres. A great way to discover the Saint-Maurice river and the city of Shawinigan from a completely different angle! Throughout the ride, discover unique views of the river and its surrounding nature. Don’t forget to take a look at the shores to admire the beautiful ancestral houses, built at the time by the wealthy factory owners.

 

  • With the waves, let the captain tell you the EXCITING story of this fiery river which, for more than a century and a half, brought down millions of logs (called pitounes) to supply the sawmills and paper mills of the Mauricie region.
